North Allegheny SD honors scholarship winners and employees with 25 years’ service

The North Allegheny School Board opened its May 6 meeting with scholarship and employee recognitions, honoring students and staff before routine board business.
Tiffany Thirkell of the North Allegheny Foundation read the 2026 scholarship winners, thanking attendees: “Thank you for being here tonight as we celebrate the incredible students of North Allegheny and the opportunities made possible through the North Allegheny Foundation,” she said. Winners announced included Halisha Khobafi (accepted to a BS‑to‑MD program), Sami Heikkinen (Georgetown University), Violet Kuckler (Indiana University Bloomington), Sagar Raghavan (UNC), Natalie Schmidt (Penn State University), and Patricia Ray Shanahan (University of Wisconsin). The foundation also presented the first David J. Givens Memorial award for excellence in student athletics and later announced the Nathan B. Trapezano Memorial Scholarship to Leonardo Yu.
Separately, Miss Tracy presented certificates and small gifts to employees marking 25 years of service to the district. She read the names and school assignments of honorees across roles — teachers, counselors, instructional aides and custodial staff — and invited recipients and families to a reception and a group photograph.
These items were celebratory and informational; the board did not take formal votes during recognitions and moved on to scheduled reports.
