Board members discussed the change after a staff member said the higher limit would better match how drivers actually travel on the road while still slowing vehicles compared with free-flowing traffic. “I think to match more of the driver's behavior and to make it more realistic, it is still slowing the vehicles down,” the staff member said during discussion.
Committee member (S4) moved to approve the resolution; the Chair (S1) seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
The measure amends Resolution 26-08 by replacing the posted 35 mph signs with 45 mph signs on the enumerated segments of 20th and 21st Street. Board members said the change is intended to align posted limits with observed speeds so enforcement and driver expectations are more consistent.
The resolution takes effect according to county posting procedures; no further action was recorded at the meeting.
