Hamburg students take first place in global German competition; board recognizes Annie Sullivan nominee

Superintendent Christopher Beissel recognized Amanda McBreen as the Hamburg Area School District’s Annie Sullivan nominee for 2025–2026 during the April 13 Committee of the Whole meeting and thanked her for her work in the Special Education department.
High School Principal Ryan McGinley introduced students Mackenzie Hoover, Kaylum Riegel and Morgan Riegel and noted that 7,745 students worldwide competed in the German March Madness competition. Hamburg students earned first place overall; individual placements included Josh Heffner (3rd), Alexander Devlin (4th), Kaylum Riegel (8th), Mackenzie Hoover (9th) and Maya Fultz (10th). The students presented a song and dance from the competition for the board.
Board members greeted the recognitions and no formal action was required for the presentations. The nominations and student accomplishments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
