Hamburg Area School District board approves budget items, new courses and vendor payments

Vice President Thomas DeAngelo called the Hamburg Area School District board to order at 6:31 p.m. on April 27 in the James A. Gilmartin Community Room. The board approved a series of routine business items, vendor payments and curriculum additions.
Business Manager Michele Zimmerman presented the 2026–27 General Fund proposed final budget and asked the board to approve Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 2026–27 computer service rates. After a motion by Director Carson Adams and a second from Director Daniel Sarna, the board approved the CSIU rates in a roll-call vote recorded as six in favor, none opposed.
Superintendent Christopher Beissel recommended adoption of several new and revised courses. The board approved new high-school courses including Circuits and Systems; Civil Innovations; Engineering Foundations Lab; Robotics and Automation; and Product Design, as well as middle-school classes such as Building for the Future; Design and Modeling; and Energy and the Environment. Director Laura “Lolly” Lesher moved to approve the curriculum; the motion passed unanimously.
The board approved a Wilkes University agreement and an invoice from Blankenbiller Electric for high-school gym electrical work after separate motions. The meeting record shows approval of multiple financial reports and invoices, including General Fund invoices totaling $2,079,469.57 and Food Service invoices and profit-and-loss statements totaling $128,230.98; activity fund disbursements were also approved.
The board approved a position description for an Extended School Year nurse and accepted a first review of several support position descriptions (custodian; building maintenance technician; ground maintenance technician) with no action required at this meeting.
All motions listed above were adopted by roll-call votes as recorded in the minutes. The board did not receive or record any public comments during the meeting. The next board meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2026, when the proposed final budget is listed for adoption on the agenda.
