West Perry board: consolidation schematic design continues; borough review expected in mid-May

The West Perry School District Board of School Directors received an update on the district—apital improvement and consolidation project on April 20, with officials saying the work is currently in the schematic design phase.
Mrs. Stover told the board that programming needs for the consolidated elementary system are being refined and that mechanical, electrical and plumbing specifications and site development requirements are under development. She said civil engineers contracted through EI have communicated with New Bloomfield Borough's water authority and, based on current estimates, the borough's existing water and sewer infrastructure "should be sufficient for the consolidated elementary system." She added the borough prefers a mid-May timeline for hearing a formal project scope.
Board members and administrators said a current focus is traffic flow at arrival and dismissal; the district is exploring ways to get as many cars on campus as possible during peak periods to limit overflow onto surrounding streets. Ms. Wills emphasized confirming water and sewer capacity before formal municipal presentations.
Mr. Hoffman confirmed a sketch plan review with Center Township took place earlier in April and that the first available official review with New Bloomfield Planning Commission is May 18. Mrs. Stover said the communications with borough staff so far were informal and that more information will follow once a formal submittal is made.
No formal decisions or municipal approvals were recorded at the meeting; board members cautioned that projects are presented to townships or boroughs after schematic design is complete and final drawings are prepared.
