Preliminary results show Brooke Saint George and Bobby Nichols leading Tempe council race; ballots still being counted

As of 8 p.m., the Maricopa County Elections Department posted preliminary unofficial results for Tempe’s May 19 ballot‑by‑mail city election showing Brooke Saint George leading the tally with 11,402 votes (29%). Bobby Nichols was second with 9,938 votes (25.28%), Berdetta Hodge had 9,369 votes (23.83%) and Jennifer Adams had 8,610 votes (21.9%). The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to the Tempe City Council.

The county’s posting — available at results.maricopa.vote and mirrored later on tempe.gov/election — was described as preliminary and subject to change as ballots continue to be processed. The announcement said ballots are still being counted and that final unofficial results are expected on Friday.

The release noted results are listed on the county page in alphabetical order by candidate name (not by vote total). The city also said the canvas of the vote, which the announcement described as the City Council’s official acceptance of the results, is tentatively scheduled for the June 4 regular council meeting. Elected members are scheduled to take the oath of office at the July 1 regular council meeting.
