Rebecca Bonvero told the committee Yale approached the city with available funds to deploy cameras adjacent to campus and said the first set could be installed before July 1. "These cameras are really quite amazing. I've seen firsthand, how the PD is able to utilize them to help solve things more quickly, and effectively," Bonvero said, and she deferred to Yale and New Haven police colleagues for technical details.
Presenters said exact camera locations will be selected by mutual agreement to fill gaps in coverage on city property and that the cameras are distinct from traffic‑management camera systems. The MOU that governs data sharing between Yale and New Haven PDs was described as dated; presenters said the MOU does not need to be amended to accept this gift but that CAO staff will consider updating it to reflect current practices.
A committee motion to accept up to 30 cameras was made and seconded; presenters and members praised the interdepartmental collaboration. Committee members asked staff to update the MOU and coordinate placement and access; presenters noted the city would cover cell‑card connectivity costs while the cameras themselves would be provided by Yale.
