Gibson County commissioners approve handbook policies, interlocal agreement; table property transfer and declare health-department camper surplus

At their regular meeting, the Gibson County Commissioners approved routine business including minutes and claims and heard departmental updates from the sheriff and county staff.
Sheriff VanHoveen told the board he had extended a conditional offer to Aubrey McNeely for a deputy position and planned another offer to a Princeton graduate for jail staff; he also said contractors toured the old jail site and bids are due next week as the county prepares for demolition.
The board approved a slate of employee handbook policies (numbers 509–526) presented by staff; policies 601–702 were introduced for future consideration and required no action tonight.
Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with the town of Owensville that allows the town to purchase materials from the county and, in some circumstances, to use county equipment or services with invoicing and reimbursement. The county noted it already has a similar agreement with Patoka.
On a request from the City of Princeton to acquire property at 1304 West Glass Street, staff asked the board to table the item pending verification of whether the parcel sold at tax sale or qualifies for transfer; the board tabled the request until the next meeting.
Staff asked commissioners to declare a health-department camper surplus and recommended selling it by sealed bid; the director had suggested a $20,000 target while staff proposed a reserve near $12,500. The board voted to declare the camper surplus and delegated follow-up to a commissioner and the health-department director to set a reserve and finalize sale logistics.
No ordinances or budget amendments were adopted at the meeting, and the board adjourned after public comment.
