District highlights expanded CTE, internships and career‑readiness efforts in ACP update

John and Kim Lianos presented the annual Academic and Career Planning (ACP) update focused on grades 6–12, outlining programs designed to connect academics, technical skills and career readiness.

They highlighted Oak Creek High School's growth in career and technical education (CTE) certifications — including ASE for auto students, Microsoft Office and industry certifications in business and technical education — and described in‑school enterprises such as Knights Racing, Knights Construction and Knights Cafe that give students hands‑on experience. The presenters said the district hosted a Wisconsin education fair this past October and plans a second fair this coming October, and that the Oak Creek High School Career Expo is scheduled for January 7, 2027 with more than 70 vendors previously participating.

The presenters also described a new partnership with the city of Oak Creek to place middle and high school students in summer internships across municipal departments (forestry, utilities, public safety, IT and others) to broaden students' exposure to government careers. The ACP team stressed efforts to increase youth apprenticeship participation and to link social‑emotional curriculum across 9–12 with the district's Knights code of self responsibility and decision making.

Board members praised the rise in industry certifications and said the ACP work exposes students to career pathways early. The presenters noted efforts to improve parent engagement around ACP tools and upcoming open houses and transition events to boost family interaction.
