Harlem Unit School District 122 board declares surplus property, approves financial items and honors students and staff

At the April 27 Harlem Unit School District 122 Board of Education meeting, trustees approved a resolution declaring district property surplus, authorized routine financial items, and recognized student and staff achievements.

On a motion by Diana Johnson and second by Diane McKinney the board approved a resolution declaring surplus property; the motion carried with seven ayes. The board also approved payables and payroll items: a payables summary of $712,337.23, payroll vouchers totaling $3,563,368.91, and accounts payable warrants of $4,275,706.14; these financial items were approved as part of routine business.

Administrators reported several Freedom of Information Act responses issued in April 2026 related to purchasing records and bid results. The board approved the consent agenda, including personnel actions and addenda, on a motion by Rebecca Carlson and second by Aaron McKnight.

During the awards and recognitions portion of the meeting, Dr. Jason Blume and presenters highlighted the math team’s fourth-place regional finish and qualification for state competition. Harlem students were recognized for winning the welding category in a Career and Technical Education competition. Golden Apple recognitions included winner Shawna Sterling and finalist Michelle Jaeger; Michelle Jaeger described the Golden Apple process as reflective and motivating. Dawn Vanderhoof, a Special Olympics participant and volunteer, presented a thank-you card and expressed gratitude for district support.

The meeting recorded no community public comments and adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
