Harlem Unit School District 122 board approves superintendent contract, selects district legal counsel

At its April 27 meeting the Harlem Unit School District 122 Board of Education unanimously approved a superintendent contract and, after closed session, voted 5–2 to appoint new district legal counsel.
At a regular meeting April 27 in Machesney Park, the Harlem Unit School District 122 Board of Education approved a contract for Superintendent Dr. Terrell Yarbrough and later, following a closed session, selected the district’s legal counsel.
The board voted 7–0 to approve the superintendent contract on a motion by Aaron McKnight with a second from Diana Johnson. The board entered closed session at 6:53 p.m. under the Illinois Open Meetings Act citation 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) to discuss employment of personnel and returned to open session at 7:38 p.m.
After returning to open session the board approved the appointment of school district legal counsel on a motion by Kurt Thompson, seconded by Diana Johnson. The vote was recorded as Thompson, McKinney, Carlson, Johnson, Meeks — 5 ayes; McKnight and Sterling — 2 no. The record shows the motion carried.
The meeting minutes show the legal counsel item was moved to the action items after closed session at the board’s earlier approval of the agenda. No public comments were recorded on either personnel action. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
