Hatboro‑Horsham board recognizes Home & School Associations for volunteer support

The Hatboro‑Horsham School District Board opened its meeting by honoring leaders from six Home & School Associations and presenting a donated book for each school library.

Assistant superintendent Dr. Ted Demers, who introduced the recognitions, said the monthly HSA leadership meetings "create connections" that expand programming and volunteer support across the district. "We are incredibly grateful for all that you do," he said.

Principals and HSA officers described activities that ranged from student mini‑grants and library renovations to sensory‑friendly family events and staff‑appreciation programs. A district presenter noted HSAs supported roughly $10,000 in teacher‑written grants this year, funding classroom materials and pilot programs that the Education Foundation has agreed to continue supporting next year.

Officers and volunteers named in the presentations included co‑presidents, vice presidents, treasurers and communications directors representing Blair Mill, Crooked Billet, Key Valley, Simmons and other schools. Principals praised the groups’ direct support of students, families and staff and noted several HSAs helped offset field‑trip costs and sponsored after‑school clubs.

Why it matters: HSAs provide district schools with volunteer time, targeted fundraising and short‑term grants that principals said bolster classroom instruction and student experiences. Several HSA projects were credited with improving library spaces and increasing access to extracurricular events.

The recognitions concluded with the board presenting donated books to each school’s library and inviting the HSA representatives forward to be acknowledged.
