Onslow commissioners approve property sale, fireworks permit and advisory appointments

At its May 18 meeting the Onslow County Board of Commissioners approved several routine items including the sale of surplus real property, a pyrotechnics permit for a concert/fireworks display and appointments to an advisory committee.

Purchasing Division Manager Christina Russell told the board the county had previously accepted an initial offer of $6,183.16 for parcel 24543 (120 Frost Lane, White Oak Township) and that a final competing offer of $18,500 had since been submitted. The board voted to accept the higher final offer, to sell the property "as is," and to authorize the chairman to sign closing paperwork.

Planning Director Carter Metcalfe presented a pyrotechnics permit application from NC Fireworks LLC for the "Coastal Carolina Cookout and Concert Fireworks" scheduled for June 6, 2026 at 126 Park Lane in Sneadsburg. Metcalfe said staff received the application, insurance certificate, shell inventory and a site plan showing compliance with the North Carolina Fire Code and that an inspection would occur before the display. The board approved the permit and authorized the acting fire inspector to issue it following inspection.

County Attorney Brett DeSalmes reported four applicants for three vacant seats on the Bridal Services Advisory Committee. Ballots were cast and the board selected Victoria Brown (seat 3), Susan Passi (seat 4) and Gary Evans (seat 7); terms were assigned as presented.

Votes: Agenda adoption and consent agenda were approved earlier by voice vote; the property sale, pyrotechnics permit and appointments were also approved by voice votes recorded at the meeting.

No formal appeals, amendments, or conditions were attached to the approvals at the time of the vote.
