Intergovernmental staff: school-refund renewal will go to voters; town to help spread word

"This is a renewal. It went out in 2018, in 2022. It is expected to go in front of the board of county commissioners tomorrow," Rodriguez Diaz said, adding that the measure will include public charter schools.
Rodriguez Diaz said the renewal is not an increase but a continuation of existing funding that helps with instructional personnel, teacher compensation and school safety measures such as school resource officers. She said board members and intergovernmental staff will work with school board members on town-hall outreach to inform voters how the renewal would be used.
The announcement came during the board’s public-comment period while principals and school representatives delivered end-of-year reports. Rodriguez Diaz indicated the referendum will be sponsored at the county level and that the town’s intergovernmental office will assist with community information efforts.
Next steps described in the meeting included the county commission consideration expected the day after the advisory-board meeting and subsequent informational events planned by school-board members to explain the renewal to residents.
