Menomonie council approves lease extension, equipment purchase, multiple appointments and TID budget transfer

The Menomonie City Council on May 4 approved a range of administrative and operational items, including a lease extension, an equipment purchase for the Fire Department, confirmation of mayoral appointments, and a revised TID 15 budget transfer after public comment.
The council approved a one-year lease extension with United Way of the St. Croix and Red Cedar Valleys, Inc. for office space at City Hall through April 30, 2027. Schlough made the motion to approve the lease extension and Pickard seconded; the motion carried unanimously (SEG 014).
On procurement, the council authorized the Fire Department to purchase an all-terrain UTV from Hexco Motorsports at a cost of $63,256.13. Schwebs moved the purchase and Sommerfeld seconded; the purchase was approved unanimously on a roll-call vote (SEG 015).
Mayor Crowe announced the appointment of Alderperson Cody Gentz as Plan Commission chair; the council confirmed a slate of mayoral appointments by unanimous votes, including members for the Board of Review, Board of Zoning Appeals, Historic Preservation Commission, Plan Commission and Tourism Commission (SEG 016–022).
Council suspended the rules to allow members of the Murals in Menomonie committee to speak and then approved a revised TID 15 budget transfer as presented (motion by Hargrove, second Pickard; unanimous roll-call). Charlie Jones spoke on behalf of Murals in Menomonie and said he was present to answer questions related to the agenda item (SEG 023–025).
The meeting included routine administrative business: the council approved claims and parking utility claims, authorized multiple temporary event licenses for Red Cedar Racing Association and approved renewals of licenses for businesses and service providers for the 2026–2027 license year (expires June 30, 2027). During the initial license motion, Alderperson Erdman voted in opposition; the minutes do not record his reason (SEG 040, SEG 052–053). The meeting adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
Mayor Crowe also offered condolences to Alderperson Yonko for the recent death of her father, Dennis Spader, and noted the first draft of the I-4 Zoning ordinance is expected in 45–60 days for council review (SEG 026).
