West Irondequoit approves 2026–27 budget and two propositions; Veil and Adams elected to board

The West Irondequoit Central School District announced Tuesday that voters approved the district’s 2026–27 budget and two ballot propositions and elected John Veil and Gary Adams to the board of education.
The Chair read the certified tallies: “So for the budget, total yes votes 1,163, total no votes 354. So the 2026–27 budget has been approved,” the Chair said. The Chair also reported that Proposition 1, the capital project, passed with 1,224 yes to 298 no, and Proposition 2, for Energy Performance Contract Aid, passed with 1,318 yes to 200 no.
In the board election, John Veil received 1,250 votes and Gary Adams received 1,199 votes. The Chair said both will be elected to three-year terms beginning July 1, 2026.
Why it matters: school budgets and capital-project propositions determine annual spending, staffing and facility improvements for the district. The approved Energy Performance Contract Aid measure is intended to support energy-related upgrades (the measure’s text and funding mechanisms were not detailed in the meeting remarks).
Superintendent Doctor Johnson thanked voters and staff during brief remarks after the results were read. Doctor Johnson singled out district clerk Miss Lustig and the vote staff for their work and welcomed the returning and incoming board members: “So welcome, Mr. Veil back for another three years. Looking forward to that. And, just say welcome, Mr. Adams. We’re looking forward to having you join the team,” Doctor Johnson said.
Mr. Sullivan also addressed the room, thanking faculty, staff and the community for what he called a “resounding vote of confidence” and congratulated Veil and Adams on their election.
Procedural business that followed included a unanimous motion to approve the minutes as written and a unanimous motion to adjourn. The meeting record does not show additional debate on the budget or ballot propositions during this session.
The district will implement the approved 2026–27 budget and the newly elected board members’ three-year terms will begin on 07/01/2026.
