The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners voted May 21 to approve a Title 3 funds request to purchase and assemble a wildland firefighting engine for a volunteer fire department at a proposed cost of $136,316.
Commissioners discussed procurement rules for purchases over $80,000 and directed that three bids be obtained for the chassis and the skid assembly before full approval of expenditures. A commissioner noted that a comparable assembled engine could cost over $200,000 and have a long lead time, so the proposed approach is intended to provide equipment more quickly and at lower cost.
The board approved the request by voice vote and instructed the requester to work with the county finance officer to ensure compliance with federal funds and county procurement policy, and to expend funds by the county’s September deadline.
