Chelsea School Board approves furniture, software, WISD budget resolution and student Europe trip

In a separate vote the board approved Action Item 65, a Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) 2026–27 budget resolution. Superintendent (S2) said the board has discussed follow-up coordination with local ISD leaders; the resolution passed 6–0.
The board also approved Action Item 69, the purchase of transportation-routing software for $102,247. Chair (S1) read that "This purchase will be funded through a combination of the sinking fund, bond, and transportation budget." The motion passed 6–0.
Action Item 70, a field trip for Chelsea High School students to Ireland, Scotland, England and France (July 23–Aug. 3, 2026), was discussed before approval. Superintendent (S2) said the current trip uses a company the district has worked with previously; he stated the per-student cost as $5,500, with 25 students already enrolled and 5 chaperones. Board members asked about financial-aid or scholarship options for families; Superintendent (S2) said there is not currently an internal scholarship fund for this trip but staff are exploring options and community partners (including conversations with Rotary International) to offset costs for families. The trip was approved 7–0.
What happens next: district staff will proceed with contracting and implementation for the approved purchases and will provide routine updates to the board. Superintendent (S2) said the district will publish factual information online about the sinking-fund/operating millage as it prepares for the August ballot.
