Ventura County’s Board of Supervisors opened its May 19 meeting with recognition of National Nurses Week and a video showcasing county nursing programs. County public‑health nursing director Salida Dabrowski and nursing leaders from hospitals and behavioral health described local programs including shared governance, an HPV self‑swab screening rollout, the Safe Harbor forensic nursing program for victims of violence, and enhanced care management for high‑need patients.
"This year's theme, 'The Power of Nurses,' is a reminder of the extraordinary role nurses play," Salida Dabrowski said as she introduced staff who then spoke briefly about clinical and program accomplishments. Danielle Gable, the hospitals' CEO, and Cynthia Fenton, chief nursing executive for ambulatory care, highlighted a QIPP performance milestone and a new HPV self‑swab program designed to extend cervical‑cancer screening to patients who decline traditional exams.
Board members presented proclamations and offered thanks to nursing staff across county agencies. The board also invited public‑works and other departments to present awards later in the agenda.
The presentations emphasized nursing roles across hospital, ambulatory and behavioral‑health settings and cited training and initiatives aimed at improving patient access and safety.
