Board approves administrative updates, insurance renewal; holds PTO item and reminds public of OSF deadline

The board approved an updated travel policy that raises the mileage reimbursement rate to 65¢ per mile with an effective date set for June 1. Chair introduced the change and the board moved and approved the policy by voice vote.
The board also approved revisions to the county credit-card policy. Amber, a county staff member, said issuance is determined on a case-by-case basis and cards are intended primarily for prepaid travel expenses; “the credit cards are only to be used for prepaid travel expenses and circumstantial,” she said. The board moved, seconded and approved the credit-card policy update.
Staff presented a wind-and-hail insurance renewal with a total premium of $8,438.85; a motion to approve the renewal was moved, seconded and carried. Board members noted other insurance options are under review and took one related item under advisement for follow-up.
A proposed paid time off policy was discussed but held under advisement after questions remained unresolved; the board asked staff to follow up on outstanding issues.
Staff reminded the public that applications for opioid settlement funds (OSF) are due by the end of the month and provided a submission email (osf@ssfcgov.org). The board also announced a Veterans Day memorial service at the courthouse at 11 a.m. (VFW as a weather backup) and reminded the public the courthouse will be closed for Memorial Day observances.
In departmental reports, the Sheriff reported weekly calls for service increased by 28 to 446 for the week and year-to-date calls totaled 7,626. The average daily inmate population remained about 122 (99 males, 23 females). A motion to adjourn carried by voice vote at the close of the meeting.
