Public Works and Utilities Committee approves consent agenda, member forms homelessness working group

The Public Works and Utilities Committee met on Monday, May 18, and approved both its agenda and the consent agenda before moving on to brief committee business.

Chair Counselor Chavez opened the meeting at 5:00 p.m., established a quorum and called for any staff changes to the agenda; none were offered. A committee member moved to approve the agenda, a second was offered, and the motion passed by voice. Later the consent agenda was approved by roll call with affirmative votes from Chair Counselor Chavez, Councilor Barrett, Councilor Bustamante, Councilor Faulkner and Councilor Figali.

The committee received no public comments during the allotted public comment period.

During matters from the committee, a committee member announced that they had formed a homelessness working group out of the finance committee and invited other members who wish to participate to be added to the group. "I formed a task force working group out of the finance committee," the committee member said, asking interested colleagues to let them know so they can be included.

Chair Counselor Chavez noted a public safety committee meeting scheduled for 4:00 p.m. the following day in Chambers where the ARU (alternative response unit) presentation will be delivered and said members were welcome to attend for more detailed information. The committee set its next meeting for Monday, June 1, 2026, and adjourned.
