Votes at a glance: Cook County committee backs gun-safety resolution and data-sharing agreement

The Cook County Criminal Justice Committee unanimously approved two additional items after the ALPR discussion.
1) A resolution to support Illinois Senate Bill 2801 and House Bill 4471 (addressing devices that convert semiautomatic firearms into rapid-fire weapons) was moved by Commissioner Lawrie, seconded and approved on roll call (16 ayes, 1 absent). The resolution framed the bills as preventive measures to reduce gun violence and urged the Illinois General Assembly to act.
2) The committee approved a proposed intergovernmental data-use agreement (IGA) enabling Cook County and partner agencies in the Government Alliance for Safe Communities to share aggregate, non-identifying data about community violence intervention grantees for program evaluation. The deputy director (Justice Advisory Council) said the shared data will include counts of individuals served by age bracket and ZIP code but will not include personal-identifying information; the agreement passed by roll call (16 ayes, 1 absent).
Both items passed without the extended debate that surrounded the ALPR contract. The committee recorded the votes and the items will proceed according to normal county implementation steps.
