School board approves slate of administrative appointments; closed-session motions and remote participation authorized

Miss Weigert moved that the board convene in closed session pursuant to the Code of Virginia section 2.2-3711 (subsections A1 and A8) for personnel discussion and consultation with legal counsel on the superintendent search; the motion carried unanimously. The board also approved remote participation by attorney Nikki Chook for the closed session.
After the closed session, Superintendent Dr. Cotton submitted multiple administrative appointments for board approval, effective July 1, 2026. The slate included numerous promotions and reassignments such as Jane Marie Wick to assistant director of student conduct and support school administration building; Niani C. Battle to assistant principal; Catherine C. Garrett to assistant principal; Christopher S. Gilkren to assistant principal at Greenbrier Intermediate; and many additional assistant principal and administrative specialist appointments across the district. On a motion by Miss Weigert and second by John McCormick, the board voted and "Motion carries with all board members present voting yes." The board placed the federal grant applications on the consent agenda for later consideration.
Procedure and next steps: The district will implement the approved personnel changes effective July 1, 2026, as announced. The board approved the consent agenda later in the meeting by unanimous vote.
