Sustainability Commissioner Becky Lee used the board’s community moment to highlight the Northbrook Public Library’s 'Library of Things,' describing it as an eco-friendly way for residents to borrow tools and other items rather than buy them.
Lee said the collection, located on the library’s first floor, includes about 100 items such as a bicycle repair toolkit, gas leak detector, moisture meter, Cricut and sewing machine. She explained the process: patrons take a card to the welcome desk, staff retrieve the item, and items can be reserved via a QR code or online hold system.
“...it’s just perfect,” Lee said, noting the program supports reduce, reuse and recycle goals and can reduce the need for residents to purchase items they will use only occasionally. She also promoted Northbrook Climate Action Day on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m., and encouraged residents to visit the library and the event.
The board thanked Lee for the presentation and moved on to other agenda items.
