Under Illinois law, the village president is charged with appointing a qualified resident to fill the vacant trustee seat until the next consolidated election. Ciesla said the village will post the vacancy on its website tomorrow and will accept electronic applications and a resume or CV beginning then through March 9 at 3 p.m. The appointed trustee will serve until the April 2027 consolidated election, when the remainder of the two-year term will be filled by voters.
The announcement did not include a reason for Koehler’s resignation beyond the president’s statement that it was for "personal reasons." No appointment was made at the meeting; the board said details about the application and selection process will be posted online and staff will provide further instructions to interested applicants.
Next steps: the village will publish the application and qualifications online, accept submissions through March 9 at 3 p.m., and the president will nominate a candidate for the board’s advice and consent per state law.
