Building Official John Haire presented photographs and advised the Greenville City Council on May 11 that walking trails and piers at Sherling Lake are in unsafe condition for the community and recommended using rented equipment to demolish the former Shoney’s building and to complete related projects.
Haire said the city would need to rent equipment for demolition and suggested using that equipment to address other municipal needs while it is on site. The presentation included suggested repairs to improve safety and accessibility at the park.
Separately, the council considered a $4,177 contract with Pioneer Electric Cooperative for seven pole and yard light installation at Sherling Lake. Councilmember Kenderius Boggan requested the council reconsider entering into the contract, saying he is "still awaiting completion of a project on Walker Green Road." The council agreed to table the Pioneer Electric expenditure until the next meeting to allow time for Boggan’s outstanding concerns to be addressed.
No additional contract terms or a new timeline for the lighting work were recorded in the meeting minutes; council members instructed staff to bring the item back at the next scheduled meeting.
