Council approves special use for Franklin Elementary expansion

Planning & Zoning heard the case at its Jan. 13 meeting and recommended approval by an 8-0 vote; no public comments were recorded at that hearing. The council opened the item for questions, heard from the applicant’s representative and then approved the ordinance by roll call.
District 64’s assistant superintendent for business operations, Bridal Hartland, thanked the council and described the project as part of the district’s referendum-funded projects, noting the space will serve District 64 and the broader community (including hosting the Beyond the Bell program) and will provide a community resource beyond school hours. The council’s approval concluded the local approvals required at this session.
