Fort Mill council adopts three ordinances on second reading and honors employees

Fort Mill council approved three ordinances on second reading to formalize advisory committees and consolidate technical code appeals, and used part of the meeting to recognize department promotions and years of service.
Chris Pettit presented ordinance 2026-23 to codify the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee and ordinance 2026-24 to establish the Keep Fort Mill Beautiful Committee; Pettit said there were no changes since first reading. He also introduced ordinance 2026-25 to create a Construction Appeals Board that consolidates appeals for building, plumbing, electrical and other technical codes into a single board.
Each ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The votes on second readings complete the two-reading requirement for those items and finalize their codification in town code.
Earlier in the meeting Chief Brian Zachary presented promotions for communications and sworn staff, citing years of service, specialized certifications and awards. The council subsequently recognized four long‑term employees for 20–25 years of service and welcomed Rob Harris for 20 years as streets and sanitation supervisor.
Council members offered public appreciation for the promotions and service milestones and highlighted upcoming Memorial Day events and park improvements funded in part by a parks and recreation grant.
