Lawrence Township honors students for science, math and robotics achievements

MSD Lawrence Township honored students and coaches across elementary, middle and high schools for science, math and robotics accomplishments during the board meeting.
Superintendent’s awards included an "Above and Beyond" recognition for Jose Encarnacion, facilities manager at Lawrence North, for technical support of school theater productions. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Emily Hass Brown led a sequence of elementary recognitions: third-place science fair winner Malia Sinnottsson, second-place Eli Murphy, and first-place winners Samuel Dubon Lopez and Jonathan Tello Tellez. Dr. Hass Brown also announced four third-graders qualifying for the National Math Star Award (top 2% nationally on iLearn) and introduced three elementary students who placed in the VEX robotics state championship.
The meeting also recognized secondary accomplishments: Fall Creek Valley’s Gear Cats VEX robotics state champions and multiple esports and middle-school state champions, with coaches and principals acknowledged. Dr. Thorpe and school principals introduced student winners and coaches; the board applauded the district’s recognition of STEM, CTE and extracurricular successes.
The awards section concluded before the board moved to a preliminary-determination public hearing on the district facilities proposal.
