Steve Corey, who identified himself as living near Salix, told the board there has been "a lack of disclosure, lack of clarity, communication from the leadership of the town of Salix to the people of town and the surrounding area." He said landowners and the local utility appear to be supporting the annexation and that there is "conjecture and rumor" the acreage could be developed as a large facility such as a data center, though he did not have confirmation. "I don't have confirmation on it, but our local utility company is definitely behind it," Corey said.
Corey asked the county to "do your due diligence" and make sure protocols and procedures were followed regarding annexation and potential zoning changes. The board did not take immediate formal action on the comment; Chair and other supervisors acknowledged the public turnout at the Salix city council meeting and said they would watch the next city agenda.
No county staff presented a formal review or legal finding at the meeting; the comment was recorded as public input for supervisors to consider in any follow-up.
