At the May 19 meeting, staff summarized permit activity and Preservation Month programming and noted several local preservation awards. Staff reported 127 total cases reviewed over the past year with 74 administrative reviews and said walking tours and workshops had solid registration and attendance. Awardees announced included properties at 101 West State Street, 501 Hamilton and 318 South 5th.
During new business a commissioner asked about the blacksmith shop on a downtown parcel. Staff reported the building had been wrapped in plastic without advance notice to the commission and that the commission has issued an adjudication notice; the matter will appear on the June agenda. Staff said the wrap makes it difficult to assess exterior condition from the public right of way and raised concerns that the covering might trap humidity and affect masonry, and staff confirmed fines outstanding have not yet been paid.
Staff reminded commissioners the next meeting is June 16 and that materials are due June 2. The commission encouraged continued public participation in Preservation Month events and planned workshops on windows and exterior rehabilitation later in the year.
