Staff and several commissioners raised technical concerns about the porosity of the brick and moisture retention that can lead to long-term damage, noting that painting can require ongoing maintenance and may not resolve underlying moisture issues.
Commissioners discussed whether the structure should be considered a contributing historic resource (the building date was cited as circa 1975) and reviewed alternatives. The board voted to accept the staff recommendation; staff encouraged the owner to work with preservation staff to explore alternate solutions and maintenance approaches.
The board's action adopted the staff findings and included a request that the property owner meet with staff for follow-up.
