The Historic Preservation Advisory Board voted Aug. 22 to approve staff findings and conditions for case 2025-197, a certificate request to replace a metal roof at 1213 (Eggs) Crockett and allow a color variation subject to stipulated materials and finishes.
Tatiana of Cesero Roofing, representing the applicant, told commissioners the client prefers a darker 'charcoal gray' finish but that neighborhood photos show varying roof colors and that the darker shade appears less severe in person than in online photos. Staff said the original submittal requested charcoal gray but that staff had discussed the City Escape finish with the neighborhood association; staff recommended approval based on findings with specified stipulations to ensure consistency with historic guidelines.
Commissioners asked technical questions about color samples and precedent and acknowledged the need to balance owner preferences with district guidelines. A motion to approve the staff recommendation passed on a roll call that recorded 'yes' votes from Davis, García, Spiller, Setzer, Pollock, Vázquez and Sepúlveda.
The board asked the applicant to continue coordination with staff on exact finish samples and to provide any additional documentation requested by the preservation office.
