Duchesne County OKs purchase of 1.87 acres for Roosevelt road realignment

The Duchesne County Commission on May 11 unanimously approved the purchase of 1.87 acres of commercial property in Roosevelt to support a road realignment project along Highway 40.
Public Works Director Mike Casper told commissioners the county had negotiated a purchase price of $58,000 per acre, at the low end of the assessor’s valuation range of $58,000–$80,000 per acre, for a total cost of $109,956. Casper said the county would acquire the parcel fee simple, giving it full ownership to proceed with the realignment and related safety improvements.
Casper told the commission the landowner had agreed to pay half the fencing cost and that “it would be about $19,000.” Commissioners discussed safety on Highway 40 and local paving and chip-seal sequencing tied to the project timeline.
Commissioner Tracy Killian moved to purchase the property for the realignment; Commissioner Jeff Chugg seconded. Commissioners Killian, Chugg and Chairman Greg Miles voted aye and the motion passed.
Staff directed to proceed with closing and coordinate fencing and paving work as part of the project implementation schedule.
