At its May meeting the Carter County Commission approved a series of routine consent and finance items that will appear in the minutes and enable ongoing operations and grant work.
Actions approved included vendor payments to Shouse Professional Services, inventory and surplus property actions, transfers between county offices, and credit applications for transportation and sheriff’s office needs. The commission approved numerous budget amendments: general purpose school fund, food service fund, highway fund, ARP fund, Helene bond fund and others. The financial director told commissioners the county is entering year‑end close and expects to submit about $3,000,000 in FEMA reimbursement requests for completed work.
One roll‑call vote recorded individual commissioner responses on a food service fund amendment; the roll call in the transcript recorded 17 ‘‘yes’’ votes. Commissioners also approved the financial policy and procedural manual updates and several smaller purchase approvals.
These routine approvals followed public testimony and a consultant presentation on the Tweetsie Trail master plan; commissioners emphasized that approving the budget amendments and motions did not constitute an appropriation of the larger Tweetsie Trail construction estimate, which remains a separate policy decision.
