County approves interlocal agreement with Lincoln for turn lanes on NW 56th Street

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement May 19 with the City of Lincoln to construct turn lanes on Northwest 56th Street from Holdridge Street to Interstate 80.
Larry Legg of Lancaster County Engineering told the board the work is a federal-aid project that the Nebraska Department of Transportation will let in October and that construction is scheduled for next summer. Legg said the City of Lincoln requested the addition of the turn lanes and will pay the cost for those lanes.
A commissioner moved and the board approved the agreement by roll call. County staff said the project is part of routine coordination between county and city on corridor improvements.
Construction timing and permitting will follow NDOT’s letting process; the county and city will coordinate final design and funding details as part of the federal-aid project delivery process.
