Teachers and building leaders described the initiative as a districtwide focus on learner mindset, differentiation, teacher clarity and formative assessment. Several classroom presenters emphasized practical strategies: setting explicit learning intentions, building common formative assessments, scaffolding lessons, and using technology selectively and purposefully. A middle-school teacher and academic challenge coach, Ryan Fletcher, introduced a five-student team that finished fourth at the state tournament and advanced to nationals in Chicago; Fletcher highlighted the students’ perseverance and learning-for-learning’s-sake mindset.
Classroom presenters gave concrete examples used in lessons — multisensory approaches for younger learners, cooperative tasks that encourage risk-taking, and procedures for revisiting assessment data to tailor future instruction. At least one teacher said the district’s one-to-one device program is being used more judiciously now, with teachers planning specific, limited uses of generative artificial intelligence and requiring disclosure when AI tools are used in materials.
District staff told the board the Every Student Thrives video and supporting materials will be available on the district website and shared via social media for families and staff. Presenters emphasized the program is not a single-year initiative but a continuing focus on improving instruction and student supports.
The board did not take a policy vote on the initiative; presenters framed the item as an informational update and community-facing showcase of classroom practice.
