Resident urges Park Ridge to consider dog park at Hinkley Park; mayor refers request to Park District

During the public-comment portion of the March 18 meeting, resident Steven Milat (speaker 9) told the council he is legally blind and urged the city to create a dog park at Hinkley Park so he and others can exercise their dogs without using lawns.
Milat said he recently moved to the Summit at Uptown and described the nearby park’s amenities, then asked how to pursue a dog-park proposal. Mayor Marty Maloney and staff explained that Hinkley Park is owned and operated by the Park Ridge Park District (a separate taxing body) and directed Milat to contact the Park District board president, Cindy Grau, and to use the park district website (prparks.org) to reach the board.
Milat thanked the council for the guidance. The mayor noted staff would refer him to the appropriate Park District contacts rather than the city taking direct action at the meeting.
Why it matters The request highlights a neighborhood recreational-access issue and the importance of coordinating among taxing bodies: the city cannot unilaterally create or modify Park District facilities without engagement by and approval from the park board.
