Board recognizes students and teachers for countywide academic and technical achievements

The Limestone County Board of Education opened its meeting with an extended recognition of student and staff achievements, highlighting district winners in academic competitions and certifications.
Dr. Shiraz praised local students’ competitive performance and called for recognition of advisers and sponsors. "I'm really proud of our students here in Limestone County," Dr. Shiraz said, noting first-place performers in the Scholars Bowl across elementary, middle and high school divisions and naming captains and top scorers. He singled out Johnson Elementary's Eli Ingram and Kaylee Bissett, middle-school and high-school captains, and praised Tanner High School for finishing third in the region.
The superintendent also highlighted Limestone County’s 2026 SkillsUSA results: "We had a total of 10 medalists from our system, one state champion, two golds, four silver and three bronze," he said, and noted that gold medalists advance to nationals in Atlanta in June. The board recognized winners across career-technical programs (including EMT, firefighting, architectural drafting and barbering) and named instructors when introduced.
Board members also acknowledged student success in FCCLA STAR events and the district’s ACT 30-plus club. Dr. Shiraz said Limestone County currently has 36 students who scored 30 or higher on the ACT and read a list of students by school to honor the achievement.
Finally, the board recognized National Board Certified Teachers, naming Brandy Glenn (Clements High School), Brandy Hall (Tanner High School) and Cassidy Ridgeway (Elkmont High School) among those newly acknowledged. Dr. Shiraz described the National Board process as rigorous and invited attendees to congratulate the educators.
The recognitions concluded with calls for students and staff to return to teaching and leadership roles within the district.
