Midway ISD outlines graduation plans: Friday 8 p.m. with rain contingency and Saturday backup

Superintendent Chris Allen said Midway Independent School District plans to hold graduation Friday at 8 p.m. but has a contingency plan in case of unsafe weather.
Speaking on Wednesday, May 20, Allen said, "We're really gonna make every effort to try and get this done on Friday." He added that if the ceremony encounters only a light drizzle it will continue, but the district will delay for safety in the event of a downpour and use a backup time of Saturday at 8 p.m.
The superintendent said the district will provide clear ponchos for graduates and encouraged spectators to bring ponchos because umbrellas are not permitted inside the stadium. "We're providing, clear ponchos for our graduates so that if they need to cover up in a little bit of a light misty rain, they can do so," Allen said.
Allen asked families to monitor district communications for any schedule changes; he said officials will announce any adjustments "as early as we possibly could." He closed the briefing by encouraging the community to end the school year well and have a good summer.
