The Compliance and Technical Advisory Board on Aug. 22 approved staff’s recommendation that a proposed standing-seam metal roof at the East Crockett Street property use the lighter “cityscape” finish rather than the darker charcoal gray sought by the applicant.
Brian, the case manager, told commissioners the application had initially listed charcoal gray, but staff had recommended cityscape to better match the historic design guidelines and the preferred Galvalume-like finish. The applicant’s contractor, Tatiana of Sustainable Roofing and Solar, said the homeowner preferred charcoal gray for contrast with white siding and that in person the color appears less dark than in photos. Tatiana told the board, “She really does not want galvalume,” and said she is “just looking at different options within that gray.”
Corey, a staff presenter, explained that manufacturers make many colors but that lighter colors typically better mimic the traditional metal finish and are more consistent with the guidelines. Commissioners had no further questions, and a motion to accept staff findings A and B with stated stipulations passed on a roll-call vote.
Staff will prepare the certificate of appropriateness and email it to the applicant within 10 days.
