The Chickasha City Council heard a presentation from Lacey, the city's animal welfare supervisor, announcing a $14,500 grant from Best Friends awarded to the local nonprofit CARTA. The funding will support vetting, vaccination, volunteer outreach and a new Chickasha Animal Support and Outreach (CASO) program designed to keep pets with families and increase the shelter's live-release rate.
Lacey said volunteers and CARTA community partners enable many shelter operations outside normal business hours, including transporting animals to out-of-state placements and running vaccination and spay/neuter outreach. She said the grant will fund vetting and behavior-enrichment programs and help the shelter pursue a managed-intake approach to reduce intake and improve outcomes.
Council members thanked staff and volunteers; the presentation included recognition of volunteers and the nonprofit's contribution to the shelter's work. No formal action was required on the grant announcement.
