County plans for Dry Bridge repairs will require temporary closures under conditions set by Oglesby officials

The Oglesby City Council on May 18 reviewed a county request to close the Dry Bridge for repairs and set conditions aimed at reducing community disruption and preserving emergency access.
Commissioner McDermott summarized the city's requested conditions: the county should keep the pedestrian walkway open, not start closure before June 1 (so the work begins after the Oglesby school year), complete work before the following school year, limit road closures to three days (Tuesday through Thursday), avoid the week of June 15, and place message boards on each approach one week before the closure. McDermott also asked that the county hold a coordination meeting with the police chief, fire chief and ambulance director at least 10 days before the closure and provide special advance notice to affected businesses such as Cookie Kingdom.
"The closure shall not occur prior to 06/01/2026," McDermott said, adding that the city requested both advance notice and use of rapid-removal barricades and signage so emergency response would not be hindered. The council treated the discussion as informational and requested the county's written acceptance of those conditions.
No formal action was required by the council; staff will monitor the county's response and coordinate with emergency services if the closure proceeds.
