The mayor said Pocomoke City was incorporated on April 4, 1878, and asked council to approve forming an external committee to work with the economic development office on a year‑long, citywide sesquicentennial celebration culminating in April 2028. Proposed ideas included a community logo contest, school and civic organization involvement, and downtown improvements such as repurposing the historic downtown clock.
A representative from Cypress Moon Arts (speaker 3) asked how schools would be included; the mayor and councilors said schools and civic organizations would be invited to participate, and suggested benchmarks to guide planning.
Lisa Pavich (speaker 5) told the council she submitted an application to use the Cypress Park skate park for a free community skate event on June 14 tied to Ocean Bowl’s 50th anniversary; staff confirmed the park is available and organizers plan music, giveaways and family activities.
On infrastructure, the mayor told the council that staff identified an available grant of $150,000 to fund a full feasibility study of the city docks, that the grant deadline runs through June 2027, and that an RFP will be issued this week. “We are preparing for a full feasibility study… The grant is $150,000. RFP will go out this week,” the mayor said. He thanked staff for locating the funding and said proposals will come before council.
Other announcements included a replacement highway sign to be operational Friday; a reminder that parking on sidewalks will be enforceable as a municipal infraction beginning May 1; bulk‑trash schedules and a flood‑resilience work session on May 26; Pocomoke High School graduation on May 26 at 7 p.m.; and a planning and zoning meeting on May 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Council adjourned after routine closing motions.
