Board hears construction updates; approves elevator retrofit, change order days and HVAC design services

Change order #2: staff recommended a change order adding 28 days to the Joris substantial completion date because of delays in permanent power from CPS; the change order carries no additional dollars and moves the substantial completion to 06/26/2026. The board approved the zero‑dollar change order and the new completion date.
Scobee Middle School elevator retrofit: staff reported multiple recent elevator failures in the original 1999 unit, including incidents requiring fire department assistance. Prestige Elevator, the district's preapproved elevator contractor, provided a quote not to exceed $97,290 to replace the control/electrical internals while leaving the cab and rails in place. The board approved the retrofit and the funding source was stated as 2023 bond funds; staff noted a correction to the fiscal impact language on the agenda item would be made to reflect the bond funding.
Building 800 HVAC: staff explained Building 800 contains aging HVAC units (last major work ~2006) and recommended contracting MEP Engineering for design services to replace HVAC equipment in phased work. The board authorized staff to negotiate a contract for MEP Engineering design services and approved moving forward with the project planning.
Pfluger Architects also briefed trustees on a Legacy project (about 88% complete in April), reporting interior finish progress, landscaping preparation and upcoming substantial completion walkthroughs. Staff and consultants said projects remain on track for milestone walkthroughs and teacher tours.
All construction approvals were recorded as motions passed; the agenda and staff presentations contained the specific dollar recommendation for the elevator retrofit and the revised completion date for Alvarado Elementary.
