Williamson County honors Round Rock girls’ soccer and the Williamson County Sun; AgriLife Extension reviews programs

At its May 19 meeting the Williamson County Commissioners Court adopted several community proclamations and heard a county services presentation.
The court designated May 19, 2026, as Round Rock Dragon Girls Soccer Day to honor Round Rock High School’s girls soccer state championship. Commissioners invited coaches and district representatives to the dais for a proclamation and group photo. The court also adopted a resolution congratulating the Williamson County Sun on its 150th anniversary; Clark Thurmond and Linda Scarborough accepted the recognition and described the newspaper’s long history of documenting county life.
The court appointed Julie Hobbs to the ESD 6 board of commissioners for a term from May 19, 2026 to Dec. 31, 2027. John Gonzales, representing county EMS, read a proclamation recognizing National Emergency Medical Services Week and highlighted regional awards and dispatch integration.
Jay Kingston, district extension administrator for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, briefed the court on local Extension activities: four of five agent positions are filled; the Master Naturalist and Master Gardener volunteer programs contribute significant hours to the county; and the 4‑H program enrolls over 748 local members, providing youth leadership and agricultural education.
The court approved the related consent items and recognized staff and volunteers for ongoing community programming and services. Commissioners encouraged continued partnerships between county government and local organizations to support education, public safety and community engagement.
Next steps: County staff will coordinate photographs and community events tied to the proclamations and continue outreach with AgriLife Extension on programming and recruitment of the remaining agent position.
