Liberty schools recognize students and two middle‑school libraries earn DESE exemplary status

Dallas Ackerman (speaker 5) introduced and presented LPS awards to Franklin Elementary students — Teddy, Tucker Smith and Ellie Wynn — citing examples of kindness, resilience and academic effort. "He consistently treats everyone with respect," Ackerman read from a nomination for one honoree.
Andrea Soumy (director of library media services, speaker 7) introduced Lisa Scroggs (speaker 9) of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, who outlined the DESE Exemplary School Library Program (ESLP) recognition criteria — 21 indicators with a 90% minimum score and no zero‑score indicators — and announced two Liberty district libraries among the 14 recognized statewide: Liberty Middle School (librarian Megan Bright) and South Valley Middle School (librarian Jamie Summer). Scroggs noted the recognition stems from legislation enacted in 2018 and thanked local leaders for support; she said resolutions from Representative Marty Jacobs, Senator Curtis Gregory and the Missouri State Board of Education accompanied the recognition.
The board also held a brief athletics recognition: Dallas Ackerman congratulated Liberty High freshman Andrew Beltran for winning the Class 3 individual state tennis championship; administrators noted his 28–1 record and 4.0 GPA.
These recognitions preceded the business agenda and were met with applause from board members and attendees. The honors reflect district efforts to highlight student achievement and strengthen library programming.
