The Montgomery County economic development committee voted to accept a Community Infrastructure Grant from the New York State Empire State Development Office for a neighborhood project called Settler's Crossing in the city of Amsterdam.
A county official said Settler's Crossing will support about 16 owner-occupied BuildLA homes and that the grant will cover site work — grading, sewer and water enhancements and retention walls for erosion control. The project was described as a partnership involving state Housing and Community Renewal (HCR), the Better Neighborhood Community Initiative from Schenectady and bank financing. The project site was identified near 2nd Street and Roosevelt, close to Veterans Park and the Chestnut Creek Trail.
Committee sponsors approved the grant and moved it to the full legislature; several legislators recorded abstentions on the vote.
