County committee approves school mental-health funding and opiate-abatement contracts with reporting requirements

The Montgomery County Health & Human Services committee approved several resolutions to direct settlement and program funds toward school-based mental-health services and opiate-abatement programming.
Members approved a resolution allocating 'jewel settlement' funds to the Canajoharie Central School District for mental-health services. County staff noted the funding will support equipment and programming in the western portion of the county and that the county is prioritizing applicants; only districts that applied will receive funds.
On a separate resolution, staff described continuation of an OESJ School District contract that supports a program the sheriff's office has participated in (referred to in the transcript as the 'Sweethearts and Heroes' program). A county representative said the OESJ contract requires quarterly reporting to the county (on student and teacher attendance, instructor hours and pay) and photographic documentation of program activities to permit county verification of expenditures.
Committee also approved a memorandum of understanding authorizing the Montgomery County Health Department to work with the village of Fort Plain on community health programming and public-health events.
Committee sponsors approved all items and moved them to the full legislature for final action.
