The Greenfield Common Council on May 19 approved an updated job description for the director of parks and recreation and confirmed several appointments to the Park & Recreation Board.
Council members said the job description had not been updated for many years; the mayor noted the current director, Scott Jack Wish, is retiring in mid‑June and council discussed timing to avoid interruption of services. The job posting will be made internally first to identify qualified internal candidates and, if needed, posted externally. The mayor said the council hopes to interview and possibly approve a candidate at the June 16 meeting so the new director can begin soon after the incumbent's last day.
Separately, the council confirmed reappointments and appointments to the Park & Rec Board (Nikki Cherick, Quinn Burnett, Denise Collins for District 1, Cheryl Bailey for District 2 with an abstention noted, and Michael Braswell for District 3). Votes on the confirmations carried by roll call.
Council asked staff to plan the hiring process with an eye toward continuity and to present candidates or recommendations at the next meeting if possible.
